Sophie Gengler

Registered Intern in Mental Health IMH29538, EMDRIA Approved Therapist

File

Long before entering the therapy room, Sophie was deeply curious about the human experience. Her studies in neuroscience and philosophy sparked a lifelong exploration of the relationship between brain and behavior, as well as the deeper questions of consciousness, meaning, and healing.

Her undergraduate education in neuroscience and philosophy laid the foundation for a lifelong curiosity about the intersection of science and the human experience. Alongside her academic work and research background, Sophie spent years immersed in practices that cultivate awareness of the body and mind. She has taught yoga for several years, facilitates breathwork and sound bath experiences, and has dedicated much of her personal and professional journey to exploring esoteric traditions and embodied approaches to healing.

Her travels have taken her beyond the classroom and into communities where these traditions are lived. She spent time living in a Tibetan Buddhist monastery, studying meditation, mindfulness, and the cultivation of presence. She also studied Tantric yoga within an ashram in Indonesia, deepening her understanding of embodiment, relationship, and the ways ancient contemplative practices can inform modern emotional well-being. These experiences continue to shape her perspective, not as replacements for psychotherapy, but as influences that enrich the way she understands resilience, connection, and the human capacity for change.

Today, Sophie integrates this unique background with evidence-based psychotherapy, including EMDR, psychodynamic therapy, neuroscience-informed care, and somatic approaches. She has also pursued specialized study in intimacy, relationships, and contemporary Tantra as they relate to couples and individual psychotherapy. The result is an approach that is intellectually grounded, deeply relational, and centered on helping clients understand themselves not only through insight, but through embodied experience. Her hope is to offer a therapeutic space where science and esoteric wisdom, curiosity and compassion, come together in service of meaningful and lasting healing.
