Justine Bumpers
Master's Level Graduate Student in Marriage and Family Therapy

Introduction to Justine
Justine Bumpers is a graduate student intern at Capella University who provides counseling for couples, families, and individuals. She has a special interest in relationships, communication, family dynamics, and the stories that shape our lives. In addition, Justine provides couples counseling to help partners better understand one another, work through challenges, and build stronger connections.
Before entering the counseling field, Justine worked in wedding and family photography. She also spent several years as a nanny and family manager. As a result, she gained a unique perspective on relationships, communication, connection, and the everyday challenges families may experience. Ultimately, these experiences inspired Justine to pursue a career in marriage and family therapy.
Couples Counseling with Justine Bumpers
Justine enjoys working with couples who want to strengthen their relationships and create healthier patterns of communication. In particular, she provides couples counseling for open marriages, polyamorous couples, and couples experiencing sex or intimacy concerns. She understands that relationships can take many different forms. Therefore, she provides an affirming and supportive space where partners can openly discuss their relationship without judgment.
For example, couples counseling may help partners explore communication difficulties, emotional disconnection, recurring conflict, boundaries, trust, sex and intimacy concerns, or challenges related to navigating an open or polyamorous relationship.
At the same time, Justine understands that every relationship is different. Therefore, she works collaboratively with partners to understand their experiences, relationship structure, concerns, strengths, and goals. Most importantly, her goal is to help each partner feel heard and understood while creating opportunities for greater communication, vulnerability, intimacy, and connection.
Individual and Family Counseling
In addition to couples counseling, Justine works with individuals and families. She believes that our relationships, experiences, and environments can influence how we understand ourselves and interact with others.
Furthermore, Justine values working with diverse and non-traditional family structures. She is also passionate about providing an affirming and supportive counseling environment for LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families.
Justine's counseling approach is grounded in systemic therapy with a narrative lens. In other words, she looks at both the individual and the relationships and systems that may influence their experiences.
She believes people have the ability to examine the stories they carry and create meaningful change in their lives. Therefore, therapy with Justine is collaborative rather than one-size-fits-all. Most importantly, she works to create a safe and welcoming environment where every voice matters.
Ultimately, Justine's goal is to help individuals, couples, and families develop greater confidence, strengthen their relationships, and create space for vulnerability, understanding, and meaningful connection.
