Amanda Persuad
Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

My name is Amanda Persaud. I’m a Florida native, wife, mother, and a proud dog mom. My commitment to supporting individuals and families through life’s hardest transitions is central to who I am and how I serve my community.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Florida before completing my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at Troy University in 2011. With over 15 years of rich clinical and human services experience, my career spans a diverse array of settings - including providing intensive therapeutic support in a maximum-security residential facility for adults, as well as therapeutic roles in youth residential programs, probation services, education, and community-based family therapy. These foundational experiences provide me with advanced clinical expertise, deep crisis-intervention skills, and a grounded understanding of the complexity of real-world challenges my clients face everyday.
Outside of the counseling room, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, both immediate and extended. I have a passion for baking, especially creating visually stunning cakes and desserts. I also enjoy hands-on projects, using power tools and learning mechanical work (like when I helped remodel my master bathroom). I possess a deep appreciation for nature's beauty, including unique flowers, fruiting trees, diverse foliage, and waterscapes. Puzzles like Sudoku, Mahjong, and crosswords match my competitive and thinking-oriented nature. I value relaxation, enjoying meditative spaces and the quietness of a still room. I also find great joy in music through singing and learning to play songs on the piano, adding a creative expressive outlet to my relaxing moments with spa, classical, or sentimental music.

My Approach to Counseling
I am a Florida Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern. My approach is relational, collaborative, and warm, combined with a practical, strengths-based directness. I focus on creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel heard and supported while we examine the patterns, stress, or past experiences keeping you feeling stuck.
I practice from an integrative orientation, drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory, Narrative Therapy, and Person-Centered approaches. At the core of my clinical philosophy is a commitment to supporting clients in achieving their own definition of a fulfilling life. Rather than imposing rigid expectations, I work with you to identify and address specific behaviors, habits, or coping mechanisms that interfere with your personal goals, relationships, or overall well-being.
In practical terms, we look at how your life experiences have shaped your beliefs, how those beliefs drive your daily choices, and how emotional distress impacts your daily functioning. Together, we translate insight into actionable, self-directed tools you can use long after our sessions end.
My Perspective
I view health holistically, considering the complete interconnectedness of mind, body, environment, and personal values. Your unique cultural background, life story, relationships, and individual goals all play a central role in shaping our work together.
Counseling Services Offered
Individual Counseling
Individual therapy offers a dedicated space to process what you are carrying and understand how it impacts your daily life. We explore thought patterns, emotional responses, relationship dynamics, and identity while building practical skills to manage anxiety, set healthy boundaries, and navigate life changes with confidence.
Youth & Family Counseling
Family dynamics and adolescent years bring unique stressors. I work with teens, young adults, and families to improve communication, resolve recurring conflict, heal attachment ruptures, and build stronger emotional connections across generations.
Teletherapy & Virtual Care
Convenient, secure online therapy designed to fit into your busy schedule while delivering high-quality, focused clinical care right from the comfort of your home.
What We Strive to Provide
A Safe Place to Unpack. A Supportive Space to Grow.
A safe place means you can bring your struggles, questions, and unfinished stories into a therapeutic relationship grounded in respect and empathy. A supportive space invites you to look closely at difficult patterns and practice changes that promote genuine healing and goal achievement. My role is to walk alongside you with clinical clarity, care, and practical encouragement as you take ownership of your path forward.
Clinical Interests and Who I Aim to Help
My clinical interests include anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss, trauma recovery, emotional regulation, boundary setting, and self-worth. I have a particular heart for:
Women & Mothers: Navigating identity shifts, burnout, family pressures, and the balancing act of modern life.
Teens & Young Adults: Facing stress, self-esteem struggles, family conflict, peer dynamics, and future transitions.
Adults Facing Major Life Transitions: Career shifts, relationship changes, loss, or uncertainty about personal direction.
Families seeking stronger connection: Working through communication breakdowns, boundary issues, and historical conflict.
