Grissel Alfonso Gonzalez
Master’s Level Student Intern in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

Welcome! I’m Grissel, a Master’s Level Student Intern pursuing my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida International University and my master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Ball State University.
As a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, I have supported children, teens, and families in building communication skills, developing greater independence, and finding practical ways to navigate everyday challenges. My work includes helping parents better understand their children’s needs and feel more confident in supporting their growth. These experiences have strengthened my passion for empowering children, teens, parents, and families through life’s changes and challenges.
As a wife, mother, and graduate student, I understand how difficult it can be to balance caring for others with making time for yourself. I believe counseling should be a space where you feel heard, supported, and comfortable being yourself, even when you’re unsure where to begin.
Whether you are seeking support for yourself or your relationship, my goal is to help you recognize your strengths, explore what matters to you, and take meaningful steps toward the life and relationships you want.
Counseling Approach
I believe therapy should reflect your needs, experiences, and goals. My approach combines understanding yourself more deeply with practical tools you can use in everyday life. My work is informed by:
Adlerian Therapy: Exploring how your experiences, relationships, and sense of belonging shape the way you see yourself and others, while helping you build confidence and create meaningful change.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Building skills to understand and manage strong emotions, get through difficult moments, stay present, and communicate your needs effectively.
The Gottman Method: Helping couples strengthen their connection, improve communication, navigate disagreements, and build greater understanding and trust.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): Identifying your strengths and what is already working, then building on those successes through small, practical steps toward your goals.
Person-Centered Therapy: Offering an accepting, supportive space where you feel heard and respected, with your experiences, values, and choices guiding our work together.
As a Master’s Level Student Intern, I provide counseling under the clinical supervision of Dr. April Brown, LMHC.
