Isabelle Gouverneur

Master's Student in the Mental Health Counseling

File

Hello! I'm Isabelle, a second-year master's student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Florida State University. I believe that starting therapy can feel intimidating, so I strive to create a space where you can feel comfortable, accepted, and truly heard. My goal is to approach every client with empathy, curiosity, and without judgment, recognizing that each person brings a unique story and set of experiences. I see therapy as a collaborative process, and I hope to provide a supportive environment where we can work together toward the goals that matter most to you.

I have a special interest in working with couples and helping them strengthen their relationships through healthier communication and a deeper understanding of one another. I enjoy helping couples recognize the patterns that can cause conflict to build over time and working together to create more productive and meaningful conversations. My approach is heavily influenced by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and I strive to remain a neutral and balanced presence, viewing the relationship as the client rather than taking the side of one partner. During my practicum at a high level of care treatment center, I had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns. That experience taught me the importance of meeting people where they are and honoring each person's individual journey.

Outside of counseling, I'm originally from Puerto Rico and am fluent in both English and Spanish. My cultural background has shaped who I am and deepened my appreciation for the importance of family, identity, and connection. When I'm not in school or seeing clients, you'll probably find me dancing or teaching group fitness classes—two things that bring me a lot of joy and help me stay grounded. Whether you're coming to therapy as an individual or with your partner, I look forward to getting to know you and supporting you as you work toward the life and relationships you want.

Clinical Approach

Heavily person-centered approach for individual, and EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy) for couple's therapy
